Call for committee members

Regional Development Australia (RDA) Orana chair John Walkom has called for committee member applications including a Deputy Chair as part of national reforms to the network.

“Following an independent review of the Regional Development Australia program, the Australian Government is implementing a number of reforms,” he explained.

The review, conducted by Warwick L Smith, showed that a new approach was required to enable the Government to heighten its focus on initiatives that grow local economies, promote opportunities, attract investment and build capacity and confidence.

As such, a revised charter was established earlier in the year, the role of Director of Regional Development has been created and new performance measures have also been established for RDA Committee activities.

“The new role of Director of Regional Development will be directly responsible for delivering the objectives and outcomes required under the RDA charter,” Mr Walkom explained.

Applications are now sought from highly motivated and experienced individuals who are knowledgeable about the strengths and challenges of the region to become part of the support for economic development in the Orana.

RDA Committees have a focus on growing strong and confident regional economies that harness competitive advantages and drive economic growth.

“RDA Orana is seeking regional leaders with vision, drive and business experience who are able to support the organisation to identify economic development opportunities and create connections for investment in our region that create jobs and growth,” Mr Walkom said.

Networking skills will be an advantage, to help build forums which enable consultation between business, industry and all levels of government and develop solutions for regional economic development.

Potential candidates can download the application form at http://www.rdaorana.org.au/work-with-us.htm

Completed applications are to be emailed to recruitment@rdaorana.org.au before 5pm on June 29.
