RDA Orana hosts Korean Consul General in Dubbo

RDA Orana was excited to host South Korean Consul General Whie Jin Lee in Dubbo in late March. While in the region, he met a number of surviving Korean War veterans and their family members. During a formal reception, the Consul General acknowledged the sacrifices made by the veterans during the Korean War, paid respect to them and their families and awarded Peace medals. The event was very well attended by war veterans and their families and also regional businesses supporting the Korean Trainee Project, of which the Consul General is a very strong advocate.

During his stay, the Consul General also visited Macquarie Anglican Grammar School, the Royal Flying Doctor Service base and Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

“The Consul was very honoured by the warm reception he received from both war veterans and regional businesses,” said Felicity Taylor-Edwards, CEO of RDA Orana.

“RDA Orana first met the Consul in 2014, and he has been particularly supportive of our Korean Trainee Project, which places partially-skilled Korean trainees in Australian workplaces to continue their occupational training. In fact, even though his term will end soon, when he returns to Korea he has offered to visit all the colleges we've signed MOUs with and promote the Orana region to them.”

“The Consul was also very impressed by the facilities at the RFDS and the Zoo as both a conservation centre and a tourist attraction. He even taught some Korean phrases to some keen young students at Macquarie Anglican Grammar School,” said Felicity.
