Reaching a global market in our own backyard

Reaching a global market in our own backyard

Raising the profile of the Orana region on an international scale is the focus of a key event being hosted in Dubbo later this month.

Regional Development Australia Orana chair John Walkom said the Orana Outlook dinner and report launch provided a timely occasion to listen to keynote commentators and hear their views on our region and its economy.

"Our guest speakers Paul Collits, Nicki Hutley and MC Catherine Fox will bring a wealth of information to the table, willingly sharing knowledge gleaned from expert careers spent in the areas of regional development, economics and finance," Mr Walkom said.

"This will be a night not to be missed."

Collits is an Economic Development Projects Manager who has worked in regional development analysis, policy and practice in both Australia and New Zealand, where he is presently based. He has worked in both the public service and private enterprise; in universities, parliament, government and in consulting.

Nicki Hutley has more than 25 years of economic, financial market and public policy experience, providing advice to public and private sector clients across a broad spectrum of public policy issues.

She is an expert in her field who delivers first-class economic forecasting through highly insightful and detailed presentations.

MC Catherine Fox is a journalist, author and public speaker who worked for the Australian Financial Review for more than 30 years.

"We are very fortunate to have guest speakers with this amount of skill and expertise attending the dinner. Anyone who's a part of the regional business and civic community will want to be part of this event."

Mr Walkom said the night will give guests the chance to mingle with key decision-makers, innovators and influencers from our region and beyond.

"The evening will provide networking opportunities and insight into the global economy. It will certainly be a highlight for the local business sector."

The Orana Outlook report details the current social and economic condition of the 13 Local Government Areas of the Orana region.

“The report identifies driving factors affecting business growth, employment openings and profitability throughout the region,” Mr Walkom explained.

"It provides a glimpse of the major opportunity sectors for the region; those that provide the most immediate prospects and will have the greatest impact in terms of growing the economy." Mr Walkom said the Orana region is significant for many reasons and it was worth using that as a lever for the future.

"It is important for its people, for the state, for the nation, internationally. We will look at driving innovation and benchmarking that innovation and competiveness with both our local and global neighbours."

Mr Walkom also welcomed the support of Orana Outlook's new sponsors Bob Berry Real Estate and Dubbo Weekender, two local businesses who can see the value of assisting this event.

The dinner and report launch will be held at Lazy River Estate, Dubbo, on October 22. Tickets are now available online here.

The book will also be produced as an e-edition and include links back to websites. For further information, contact event organiser Seed Business Solutions on 8006 1910.
