Research, write and win!

Grant writing workshops wrap up

RDA Orana recently hosted and attended successful advanced grant writing workshops in Dubbo and Coonamble. Jamie Young, an experienced grant and tender writer, showed participants from all over the Orana region how to research and write winning funding proposals. The workshops had a focus on the National Stronger Regions Fund which will help to fund priority infrastructure in regional communities.

Here’s what some participants had to say about the workshops:

“Very helpful and useful for current and future submissions”

“Clear, concise, brought in good experience and case studies”

“Good step-by-step instructions”

…and here’s a little of what they learnt:

What are the three fundamental concepts for the development of competitive grant applications?

  • Multiplier effect - what’s the impact?
  • Business case - is it worth it?
  • Risk management - will it succeed?

What are the quickest, most efficient ways to gather information to plan and develop proposals?

  • There is a lot of information to be developed and collated for a grant application, so it helps to have a grant application ‘bid’ plan to help guide the process;
  • Coordinate the people involved and make sure that the application is submitted on time.

What are the criteria funders use to determine whether to fund or reject your proposal?

  • You must meet the eligibility criteria
  • There are requirements to be an eligible applicant as well as for eligible projects

How do you address responses to align with the set of criteria?

  • Put forward a business case that presents a compelling case for a project that is both worthwhile and sustainable
  • Make your application easy to read and build credibility in the project
  • Address the assessment criteria and make sure your project ticks all the boxes
