Time running out to participate in skills survey

The Unravelling the Skills of the Future for the Orana Region project being conducted by Regional Development Australia (RDA) Orana is in its final days, with businesses in the region encouraged to participate.

RDA Orana Executive Officer Megan Dixon said there had already been a strong response rate.

“The survey is going really well, we have had 150 responses and our goal is 220.”

Employers are being targeted to seek information about their present and upcoming innovation, training, labour and skills requirements.

The Regional Skills Outlook study includes developing a profile of each LGA, including major employers and training providers in those areas.

“Information will then be used to inform and shape projects and policies that support regional economic growth into the future.”

Data being gathered includes details of the industry sector, service provision, local workforce and training challenges.

“The aim of the project is to examine the various aspects of business and trading in the Orana region. The 2017 survey will enable us to update and expand on previous research with current information, thereby allowing us to re-evaluate strategies and overcome any issues that exist.”

This includes workforce demands, impediments to the business, present and future skills shortages, recruitment and retention, exports and innovations, and training and growth.

“We need to assess barriers, address labour issues and look at the skills of business owners,” Mrs Dixon said.

She explained that the projected outcomes will be to develop and present policy responses to State and Federal Government on issues around labour and training.

“We are gauging the types of businesses that exist and industry numbers along with how they operate and what they contribute to the economy before giving that information to government with a view to better services in terms of employment, development and technology.”

For full completion of the survey, participants will be given $30 or the opportunity to donate to Macquarie Homestay.

The last day for responses will be Friday, October 20, 2017.

Anyone with a questionnaire to return is urged to do so by that date.
