Funding available for regional tourism

Regional NSW Minister John Barilaro’s announcement of government funding towards new tourism projects across regional NSW has been welcomed by RDA Orana Director of Regional Development Megan Dixon.

“This kind of funding can be used as a cash injection into our regional economies,” she said. “Anything that helps boosts rural communities is positive
news.”

Round two of the $300 million Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund is now open for applications, with $50 million available for regionally iconic
tourism activation projects.

“This fund is geared towards bigger projects that will benefit the entire region, with visionary and innovative ideas welcomed.”

Local government agencies,community groups and non-government organisations are encouraged to apply.

“Ventures that cross Local Government boundaries and incorporate regional growth will be the main focus,” Mrs Dixon said.

Eligible projects must be for new or enhanced regional infrastructure that will drive growth in the visitor economy, increase visitor expenditure and extend
overnight stays.

The NSW Government’s Rebuilding program is funded from the Restart NSW Fund. Within the Rebuilding program, the Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism
Fund (RGETF) aims to increase tourist visitation by investing in regional environment and tourism infrastructure, particularly focusing on fixed assets
that will grow and further diversify NSW regional economies.

Examples of successful round one projects include the Tamworth Astronomy and Science Education Centre and Planetarium, the Wagga Wagga Riverside Precinct
Rejuvenation and the Jenolan Caves upgrade. Applications for the fund will be open until 21 September 2018. RDA Orana can support potential applicants
