Mudgee among winners at regional tourism awards
Mudgee has shone at the 2018 Country & Outback Regional Tourism Awards, winning multiple awards for its tourism planning and services.
“Mudgee Region Tourism won gold for both its Visitor Information Services and Destination Marketing which is a fantastic achievement,”
RDA Orana Director of Regional Development Megan Dixon said.
“Recognising and celebrating business excellence is a really important role in social and economic development besides the exposure and recognition
that a business receives,” Mrs Dixon said.
“It gives investors confidence in communities and showcases community strength and business excellence.
“It also allows us to show a business mix and instills confidence in the broader business community.”
Dubbo’s Standard Accommodation featured highly at the awards night in Orange, with the Manera Heights Apartments winning gold and the Shearing Shed
Motor Inn taking home silver. The Old Dubbo Gaol also picked up a gong in the Cultural Tourism category.
“This is wonderful exposure for the Orana region and something on which these centres can really use as a drawcard in the future,” Mrs Dixon said.
There were winners in 15 categories at the gala awards ceremony, with finalists coming from tourism businesses, local councils, events, restaurants,
wineries and accommodation providers with more than 120 industry representatives in attendance on the night.
Regional Tourism Awards chair Jane Barnes said this year’s finalists were all of a high calibre while Destination Country and Outback General Manager
Rhonda Taylor said the event was a good opportunity for industry to gain recognition for their efforts.
Winners from each category will now be finalists at the NSW Tourism Awards to be held in Sydney later this year.
Businesses in the region will be highlighted at the upcoming Mudgee Clock Awards on August 17 and Dubbo’s Rhino Awards on October 19.
