Profile: Janine Lea-Barrett


Janine Lea-Barrett is a Chair, Board member and Executive/Senior Leader with more than a decade of board level experience across the mining, construction, asset management and agribusiness industries.Janine’s qualifications are in the areas of engineering, business, strategy and risk management and her experience includes roles at various mines as a Superintendent/ Manager covering construction, asset management and compliance.

Janine joined the RDA Orana committee in 2017 with the aim of adding to the board from a mining and agricultural point of view.
Passionate about increased power and secured water for the region in order to gain businesses and expand the townships, Janine’s vision for achievement is for Orana to become a renewable power house for the state with solar/thermal or nuclear installations embedded into the network to power the whole region and entice businesses towards rural areas. Janine believes that lack of infrastructure is the greatest barrier into carrying power back to the network.

Janine’s previous representative roles include Local Government councillor, Mining Electrical and Mining Mechanical Engineering Society Western Chapter chair and Far North Queensland Regional Electricity Council board member.

She is currently working in agribusiness in an executive capacity as the Strategic Business Manager to develop and implement strategic planning. In her own business, she researches opportunities for businesses and also does volunteering in the mentoring/coaching field. Janine’s pastimes include learning,reading, the family farm and adventure.

She hopes to help drive the future direction of the region through her knowledge of the area, background in electricity management and knowledge and interest in alternative power sources.
