Situated in the heart of the rich Macquarie Valley in central western New South Wales, Narromine Shire covers an area of 5,224 km². Narromine is nestled on the banks of the Macquarie River approximately 450km west of Sydney and just a short 30 minute drive from the inland city of Dubbo.

Air

For those wanting the option to fly, our Shire is well serviced by Dubbo Regional Airport which is located just 20 minutes from Narromine. Three major airlines (Qantas, Regional Air Express (Rex) and JETGO Australia provide over 150 direct return flights per week from Dubbo to Sydney and Broken Hill, as well as Dubbo to Brisbane direct.

The Shire is renowned as a quality grain producing region, much of which is containerised for export, as well as domestic supply by road and rail.

Narromine is strategically located on the main transport corridors of Sydney to Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Brisbane to Melbourne, providing a logistical advantage for the area.

The Narromine Shire is home to a number of large businesses, including three major plant breeding and seed production companies which export to various countries around the world. The Shire also has a large machinery manufacturer, with a state of the art factory, designing and building large agricultural equipment which is distributed Australia wide. Complimenting these larger businesses, are many smaller businesses throughout the Shire contributing to the economy and quality of the region.

Trangie supports a number of agricultural and related businesses, including a large engineering and construction workshop, an aerial agricultural and aircraft maintenance business and an agricultural research station. Cotton production has increased within the Shire in recent years with two gins in operation.

Significant mineral resources have been discovered near Tomingley in the south of the Shire with Alkane Resources Limited providing significant employment opportunities.

Situated in the heart of NSW, Narromine has a temperate climate for much of the year with highest temperatures in summer months from November to March.

The Narromine Aerodrome is home to the oldest Aero Club in Australia and houses the famous Narromine Aviation Museum.  Be captivated by artefacts, documents and photographs that tell the story of aviation as it evolved at one of Australia’s most historic aerodromes.  Stroll around the wartime parade grounds, see two original hangars and get a close up view of the spectacular full scale replica of the Wright Brothers Model A Flyer.

Narromine’s charming Iris Farm is also on your must – do list.  Once an old bull yard, the five acre sites now boasts over 1200 varieties of beautiful tall bearded iris in full bloom from October to early November.

Head a little further west to Trangie – a small town stepped in history dating back to Cobb & Co, or take a scenic detour south to Tomingley, the gateway to Goobang National Park renowned for its stunning lookouts and spiritual ambience.
